Drawing the Line – Where Art and Architecture Meet

Introduction
| Art and architecture share a rich boundary, each grounded in expression but oriented toward different ends. Art speaks to emotion and identity; architecture, while equally expressive, responds to context, material, and human need.
Architect and artist Chris Johnson joins artist-designer Alex Ritchie to explore how drawing bridges idea and form, emotion and structure. Both share a lifelong passion for drawing as a way of thinking, seeing, and making. Chris has travelled the world sketching the built environment, finding joy and solace in quiet moments with pen and paper. Drawing, for him, is contemplation that connects him to place in a deeper way. Alex brings a complementary perspective from years designing and managing major cultural landmarks, museum exhibitions, and brand experiences—projects that fuse creativity, narrative, and precision. His work shows how design can move beyond function to create meaning, transforming the built environment into emotional and cultural experiences. Together, they explore how art, culture, and architecture converge to create spaces reflecting shared values, expressing identity, and enriching the urban fabric. From ancient temple geometry to digital design’s fluidity, Drawing the Line shows how lines tell stories, form evokes feeling, and the union of art and architecture transforms structure into experience.
