Construction In Bushfire Prone Areas

13 May 2024

1 Formal CPD Hour

4:00 pm AEDT

Presented by Gavin Williams

Construction in bushfire-prone areas requires careful planning, design, and implementation to minimize the risk of fire damage to structures. Here are some key considerations.

Of critical importance is the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) , which is an assessment process to determine the level of bushfire exposure to a property , and the outcomes of the BAL assessment will determine the construction requirements to ensure occupant safety.

This module will introduce the BAL rating system and the concomitant construction systems, as well as an overview of Standards and testing related to construction in bushfire prone areas.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the presentation attendees will be able to:

    • Discuss the regulations governing construction in bushfire prone areas
    • Discuss the BAL rating system
    • Select and appropriate construction system for BAL-FZ exposed structures
